Our Activities in Toronto and North America

In 2009, we began to expand our activities with the start of a North American Cape Farewell, choosing Toronto as our headquarters for this side of the Atlantic.

We were fortunate to secure a partnership with MaRS, who now provide us with office space and administrative resources. MaRS is a perfect fit as it situates us close to the science community and we clearly share an outlook regarding the benefits of creative collaboration.

Using MaRS as our hub, we have spent the last two years introducing ourselves to the North American neighbourhood of individuals and organizations committed to addressing climate change.

We are eager to partner with other organizations that share our point of view, our overall goals and especially our desire to convey a solutions-based narrative. We include academic institutions in our partnership strategy, in order to develop curriculum that explores the role of the artist in future.

We have also been formulating our programming and are poised to launch two projects this year. The first project is Dew Line: The Role of the Artist in the Future, a high profile concert that will introduce Cape Farewell and its activities to the North American public and will usher in our second project, Carbon 14, a multi-year project that will begin with a symposium this fall and finish with a public exhibition at the Royal Ontario Museum in 2014.

Cape Farewell North America makes its public debut on November 10 2011 in Toronto, with The Dew Line Concert: Climate is Culture, featuring Canadian indie rock singer and guitarist Amy Millan (of Stars).
