Carbon14
Carbon14 is an exhibition showcasing collaborative work from artists, scientists, economists, health practitioners, ecologists, eco-theologians and other intellectuals exploring issues of climate change.
Carbon 14 is as much about the process of creative collaboration as it is about the outcome. It is about providing opportunities for ideas, methodologies and people from varied professions to mix and meld and make something new.
Cape Farewell sets up a structure for these types of creative partnerships, believing that by making space for cross-profession collaborations, artists will create sound, persuasive work that reaches the public in new and unique ways.
Carbon14 starts with the workshops which we expect to yield several promising collaborative teams. The next two years will be focused on supporting the production of the teams’ work, which likely will include field research followed by an extensive production schedule.
By Spring 2014, the work will be exhibited at the Royal Ontario Museum's Institute for Contemporary Culture (ICC). The exhibit becomes a jumping off point for an ambitious and innovative program of activity inspired by the work that has emerged over the Carbon14 process, and the entire process is documented by Cape Farewell and becomes another artwork on its own.
This show will then tour the globe, becoming a point of departure for other cities to mount their own unique program of activity to complement it.
